I have a computer science degree so I was already comfortable with a few different languages but, when I tried to learn SQL on my own, I found I kept getting stuck learning the basics. I took EnkiCamp with the hope of nailing down the foundations of SQL.
I’d say my goal of understanding and moving past the basics of SQL was fully achieved. The course was perfect for that. The material got me past the fundamental stage and by quickly grasping the fundamentals, I was able to quickly become more efficient overall.
SQL fits into my role because I need to pull data for OutSchools partners. Before EnkiCamp, I usually tried to adapt old queries to fit my needs (essentially I tried to reverse engineer them). Now I’m able to build queries from scratch which means I’m able to pull data that helps us reach more students and improve our margins.
EnkiCamp made an internal community at Outschool of people working to learn SQL together. We were regularly having meetings together as a team, helping each other out across departments. We’re still having regular interactions about SQL now and I think the whole experience has been hugely valuable for me and others.
